In a try to stop fraud of university degrees and certificates in future, the University Grants Commission (UGC) is thinking to link the Aadhar card number and publish the student’s picture on the degree/certificate from next year.
The suggestion is currently under deliberation by the ministry of human resource development (MHRD). If the scheme gets passed, the commission will issue commands to the universities and educational institutions for the same by next year.
“After getting fraud degree-related complaints, the MHRD had inquired suggestions from the UGC to tackle this issue.
So, in the beginning of this month, the commission recommended a proposal of issuing the Aadhar card number and picture of the student necessarily on the degrees,” he said.
As per the proposal, holding an Aadhar card number will not only prevent forgery but will also make it simpler to save the degrees in a digital format in the National Academic Depositary (NAD).
“The students will then just have to mention their Aadhar card number, after which they will be able to access the degree/certificate from everywhere.
If the trial is favorable for the universities, then the same will be performed for Class 10 and 12,” the source added.
