The Railways will soon move towards Aadhar-based online ticketing system to prevent touts from blocking a bulk of tickets, end fraudulent bookings and curb cases of impersonation.
Aadhar number has been made necessary for senior citizens to avail concessions in train tickets from April 1. A three-month trial run for this is going on.
As per the new business plan 2017-18, revealed by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today, besides the Aadhar-based ticketing system, the Railways will go towards cashless ticketing system by installing 6,000 point-of-sale machines and 1,000 automatic ticket vending machines across the country.
An integrated ticketing app will also be begun by May to encourage cashless transaction.
“Aadhar number will be required for one-time registration at the IRCTC ticketing site. The step is directed at eliminating touts from registering with fake identities,” a senior Railway Ministry official said, adding the Railways is preparing software for the purpose.
Despite taking several steps, touts manage to block a bulk of tickets and sell them at much higher prices.
The new business plan also visualizes launching of new tourist trains connecting hill stations and enhancing passenger comfort and providing pleasurable journey experience through improving amenities and catering service.
What will be the advantages of Aadhar train booking?
It will be easy for giving out concessions, and this will become fair now. Aadhar card will be directly linked to the ticket now, and this is why the railway authorities will be able to check whether the person is eligible for concession or not. The TTEs will be carrying the mobile handheld devices that will instantly confirm and verify the claims of the passengers.
The Aadhar card shall stop unauthorized agents and touts from booking tickets in fake names. This is a really dangerous issue in Indian Railways. Thousands of tickets get booked in false names. With the Aadhar card linkage, this can be stopped immediately.
The insurance for passengers
Every train passenger will have the insurance now. At present, only the online bookings of train tickets are allowed for insurance.
But gradually this will be available even in the offline bookings as well, even for the unreserved passengers.
At present, the unreserved category passengers are not provided with insurance because the Railways servers do not have the database of tracking so many people traveling in unreserved category.
But gradually it will become available as the Aadhar linkage will make it easier to link up crores of people traveling daily.
At the same time, the government has also assured to reduce the price of insurance investments per travel. Thus it will be effective for the common people going in railways.
