How to update Mobile number in Aadhar Card

Aadhar card is the most significant proof of identity and needed at most of the places where you require to show it as a proof of address and proof of identity.

It also gives a valid proof as it authenticates that the person who is having Aadhar card is the citizen of India. Aadhar card is extremely important while doing any critical work in court or while doing registration of property. 

Sometimes it acts a mandatory document while applying for home loans and property registration. One good thing about enrolling for Aadhar card is that it is available without paying any single fees as it is right for every individual to have his/her Aadhar Card generated.

It is important to register for Aadhar card and one can enroll himself or herself by contacting nearest center which provides Aadhar card.

Aadhar card needs a contact number which is required for registration. However sometimes due to any reason, your mobile number has been changed or lost.

In such cases, your old contact number registered under your Aadhar number is of no use. So it is important to change or update mobile number in Aadhar card. Because registering your mobile number with Aadhar is mandatory to get updates on your mobile related to it.

If you haven’t registered mobile number with it, then it’s not possible to take advantage of online facilities given by UIDAI like update data, change name, correct details, download Aadhar number, forgot or lost enrollment number. Because an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number while using any of online facility.

There are 2 ways via to update Mobile Number in Aadhar Card:

  1. Online Process
  2. Offline Process(by Post)

Steps to update Mobile in Aadhar Card Via Online Process:

  • Visit official portal of UIDAI website.
  • Enter your Aadhar Card Number and security code provided in image and click on Send OTP button.

    Note: It’s mandatory to have a mobile number registered with Aadhar Center to update the mobile with Online process.

  • If your mobile number is not registered with Aadhar Authority then you will get message “Your Mobile number is not registered in our database.”
  • Next OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.

    • How to update Mobile number in Aadhar Card

  • Now, enter received OTP in the box and click on “Login” button.
  • Next select checkbox in front of Mobile Number for updating your Mobile Number to Aadhar Card and click on “Submit” button./li_item]
    • Then put your new mobile number and Click on “Submit Update Request” button.
  • After the Submit Update Request, cross check your mobile number again and if mistakenly you entered any wrong digit then click on “Modify” button.
  • If your Mobile Number is correct then select the “I confirm that…” checkbox and click on “Proceed” button to continue.
  • On successfully submitting the request a Uniform Request Number (URN) will be generated on screen and also intimated through SMS.

    Note: You can use this URN along with 12 digit Aadhar Number to check the status of Aadhar Card update request.

  • Now click on Logout.

    • Steps to update Mobile Number in Aadhar Card Via Post or Offline Process:

    • Download the Aadhar card update application Form : Click here to Download 
    • Once downloaded take the printout. The form will look like this:

    • In the first option – Do Tick mark on “Mobile” Option.
    • Enter your Aadhar number.
    • Describe your name, address as provided in Aadhar card.

      Note: Fill the form in CAPITAL LETTERS and in both the languages (English and your local language as it appears in your Aadhar letter).

    • Next enter your Mobile number and e-mail ID.

      Note: It’s not mandatory to add e-mail id but I recommend you to add it as a second option to reach you out.

    • You have to send self-attested photocopies of the updated documents.

      Note: For a list of valid documents click here.

    • Do not forget to write your Aadhar number in the attached documents too. Provide the name of the documents you have attached.
    • Once the information is completed once again check the filled form again for any errors.
    • Now you have to send the filled form through post. Details of address is provided as below:

      Box No. 10, Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh – 480001, India UIDAI Post Box No. 99, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad – 500034, India
    • After sending the application, you have to wait for some time. Once the mobile number is added to your Aadhar card, you will able to receive a confirmation message from the official on your mobile number.

        While updating mobile number using online method, they send you a one-time password(OTP) to your registered mobile number and so I am sorry we can’t change it without OTP. Otherwise, if your registered number is not working, in that case, you can use the offline method to update mobile number. Please check the steps here mentioned in this same article.

      I have enrolled for adhar card last year, but have’nt recevied yet, however now i am getting message on adhar card status that, your adhar card has been generated, but when iam going to download it, its been showing, record not found, message,
      Then i got to know that problem is my phone no. which is not registered yet, hence i am not able to download my adhar card. Before knowing this, i went twice to get enrolled and have provided all the correct details but from my last visit’s slip i got to know that my adhar has been rejected due to duplication and then i got duplicating with, EID and other details.
      Now, i want to know for just registering the phone no. only, what procedure i have to follow, should i have to visit centre again and have to provide again finger prints and eyescan again, or it will be registered without going through all this. I have my documents, adhar no, eid all ready,
      Now, please help me out.

        If you have Enrollment Id with you that you have got while first time. Then you can download Aadhar card with any of the mobile number.

        If you want register the mobile number, here in the same article update it via offline method and then download the aadhar card.

            There is no need to attach the documents while updating the mobile number in Aadhar Card Online. While updating the mobile number offline by post , You need to mention the type of ‘document of identity’ and attach the same document that proves your identity.         I understand your concern. If you are using your Aadhar number(UID) to download the Aadhar Card online then it’s mandatory to have registered mobile number with you.

        In this case as you don’t have registered mobile number so you can use your Enrollment ID(EID) which has given to you in an enrollment slip when you had enrolled for Aadhar Card.

        It’s not compulsory to have registered Mobile number while downloading the Aadhar card with Enrollment ID(EID).

        Next, If you don’t have EID then you can retrieve your lost EID number also. But, you should have registered email id or mobile number. You can find out the lost UID/EID from the official portal of UIDAI. This is the official link: (https://resident.uidai.net.in/find-uid-eid)

        You can also check out the steps to find the lost EID on this same article.

        Now if you don’t have registered email id too then you have to send the mobile number update request by post to UIDAI.

        Hello Julu

        You need to know your registered name to download the Aadhar card. Otherway, wait for hard copy of aadhar card, you will get the paper copy within 30 to 90 days at the given address. You can download the eAadhar online number of times you need it there is no restriction to it, but you won’t be able to download if your Aadhar Card is in the processing stage.

        Second way visit your nearc=by enrollment center, they might help you. If still you will face any issue, please let us know we will be happy to help you.

      I have been issued my Aadhar Card No. 3857 9522 2304 in the name of Bishnu Gopal Sharma instead of my Original name Krishna Gopal Sharma. Moreover I have lost my old registered mobile. I made an offline correction request through post with PAN as supporting document for name change and also submitted my new mobile number which does not require any documentary evidence. On 10th Feb, 2017 after long time I received SMS regarding submission of my request with a URN No. 0000/00355/27605. On visiting status on Aadhar, it shows request rejected does not show reason. What shall I do please suggest?

        Otherwise you will also get the notification on your registered mobile number. And Updated Aadhar letter will be sent to you if you have requested for the update of Name, Address, Date of Birth and Gender. It takes 60 to 90 days to get the letter by post.
